Diagnostics & Clinical Capacity
Helping women and providers understand a pregnancy
TMF already supports access to portable ultrasound technology and strengthens healthcare-worker capacity to use Point-of-Care Ultrasound in maternal care. The current focus is expanding access to additional partner clinics.
This is both an equipment initiative and a clinical-capacity initiative. Our approach does not end when a machine arrives at a clinic.
Rural healthcare professionals often work with limited diagnostic resources. Expanding portable ultrasound capacity can support clinical assessment during maternal care when used by trained healthcare professionals.
- 01Equip — Acquire portable ultrasound equipment for the setting.
- 02Train — Point-of-Care Ultrasound training for clinic staff.
- 03Mentor — Continued clinical mentorship and support.
- 04Supervise — Ongoing supervision and competency reinforcement.
- 05Measure — Utilization monitoring and data collection.
- 06Sustain — Appropriate maintenance planning.

How it connects
Women engaged through Maternal Health & Wellness can be connected to ultrasound services where appropriate, and findings support birth planning within the Safe Motherhood & Facility Delivery Program.
Clinical Tools for Earlier Detection
Alongside ultrasound services, The Mansaray Foundation supports access to practical clinical tools that help health workers monitor mothers and babies and recognize potential warning signs that may require further assessment or referral.
Fetal Doppler
Supports fetal heart-rate monitoring during maternal care.
CRADLE Vital Signs Alert
Supports blood-pressure and vital-sign monitoring and helps health workers recognize warning signs associated with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy and blood loss.
Glucometer
Supports blood-glucose screening during maternal care, including screening relevant to gestational diabetes.
These tools form part of TMF's broader approach to strengthening maternal care, from antenatal assessment and monitoring to appropriate referral and facility-based care.

Health workers, working together.
Stronger maternal care depends on skilled health workers collaborating inside the facility, with the tools and support they need.

Monitoring vital signs during maternal care
The CRADLE Vital Signs Alert supports frontline health workers in monitoring blood pressure and other vital signs during maternal care, helping them recognize warning signs that may require further assessment or referral.

What we are now tracking
Indicators introduced across the Diagnostics & Clinical Capacity program as part of the connected maternal-health model.
TMF is now tracking
- Ultrasound scans and services provided
- Maternal vital-sign monitoring encounters using CRADLE
- Fetal heart-rate monitoring assessments using Doppler
- Health workers trained in appropriate use of these tools
- Referrals for further clinical assessment after concerning findings
These are indicators TMF is introducing — not results already achieved.
