Community Maternal Health Education & Outreach

Bringing health information closer to families

Improving maternal health begins long before a woman reaches a delivery room.

TMF works with communities to strengthen awareness of pregnancy care, facility delivery, reproductive health, and the importance of making informed health decisions and seeking timely care.

This work feeds directly into the Maternal Health & Wellness and Safe Motherhood & Facility Delivery Programs — outreach is often where a woman first meets TMF.

Areas of education

Community outreach may include:

  • Antenatal-care awareness
  • Facility-delivery education
  • Sexual and reproductive health
  • Maternal nutrition
  • Infant feeding and wellness
  • Addressing health misconceptions
  • Understanding when and how to seek professional medical care
  • Postnatal-care awareness

Community engagement

The program emphasizes trust and dialogue rather than one-way information delivery. TMF recognizes that cultural beliefs, community norms, transportation, family dynamics, and previous experiences with healthcare can influence maternal-health decisions.

This is especially important in communities such as those surrounding Kabombeh Community Health Post, where some women continue to prefer home delivery.

Our goal is to work respectfully with communities while strengthening understanding of the benefits of skilled maternal care.

Community Outreach in Action

TMF works beyond the walls of health facilities to create space for maternal-health education, questions, and community discussion. This outreach builds awareness of antenatal and facility-based care, addresses misconceptions, encourages informed health decisions, and connects women and families with available health services.

Youth engagement

Engaging and Educating Young People

TMF also engages directly with young people, creating safe and informed spaces to discuss sexual and reproductive health, build awareness, address misconceptions, and empower youth with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their health and future.
