Maternal Health & Wellness

Engage and support women throughout pregnancy

Healthy pregnancies require more than a single service.

The Mansaray Foundation's Maternal Health & Wellness Program creates a welcoming point of connection for pregnant women in rural communities, combining maternal-health education, antenatal-care engagement, pregnancy support, preventive nutrition education, referrals, follow-up, and a nutritious community meal.

Our experience in our rural catchment communities has shown that acute malnutrition is not currently a major presenting concern among the pregnant women and children we serve. For this reason, TMF has evolved its traditional feeding program from general food distribution into a broader maternal-health engagement initiative.

The nutritious community meal remains an important expression of care and community, but meals served are no longer the primary measure of program impact.

Meals remain an important expression of care, but our impact is measured by the maternal-health journey that happens around them.

How the program works

The Maternal Health & Wellness pathway

  1. 01 · Engage

Community outreach and Maternal Health Days.

  2. 02 · Assess

Registration, maternal-health assessment, ANC connection, and ultrasound where appropriate.

  3. 03 · Educate

Healthy pregnancy, nutrition, danger signs, and birth-preparedness education.

  4. 04 · Connect to care

ANC, ultrasound, referral, birth preparedness, and other appropriate services.

  5. 05 · Follow up

Continued engagement throughout pregnancy and postnatal follow-up where applicable.

The nutritious community meal is an important component of Maternal Health Days — not the endpoint of the maternal-health journey.

From the field

Nourishing mothers, together.

Shared meals bring pregnant and breastfeeding women and young children together at the health facility, alongside the care and education they receive there.

Health facilities are where pregnant women connect with antenatal care, nutrition education, and the wider support that keeps mothers well.

Building on what works

Measuring the maternal-health journey

TMF is moving beyond counting only meals distributed. As part of the redesigned program model, we are building the systems to follow what happens around each Maternal Health Day.

Meals remain an important expression of care, but our impact is measured by the maternal-health journey that happens around them.

TMF is now tracking

  • Unique pregnant women engaged
  • Maternal Health Day participation
  • ANC participation and follow-up
  • Ultrasound services accessed
  • Pregnancy education
  • Birth-preparedness engagement
  • Referrals identified and completed
  • Continued participation during pregnancy
  • Postnatal follow-up where applicable

These are indicators TMF is introducing — not results already achieved.
